The five-day monsoon session of the state Legislative Assembly and   Council seems to start on a fiery note on Monday as the opposition parties in the state dropped enough hints on Sunday that they would corner the government on various issues encompassing power crisis, diesel prices’ hike and fee reimbursement scheme.

The government is planning to allow debate on severe power crisis on the first day of the session. But, it is unlikely that the House will transact any business as the Opposition has decided to attack the government on the issue.

On the other hand, Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS), Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), and Communist Party of India (CPI), all votaries of a separate state, have resolved to take up demonstrations inside and outside the House on Monday, the Hyderabad Liberation Day, to expose the dillydallying attitude of the ruling Congress on Telangana issue.

Giving a fore-taste on what is in store, TRS, BJP and CPI demanded that the Assembly should pass a resolution in favour of granting statehood to the region.  The BJP and CPI also demanded a resolution to mark the Hyderabad Liberation Day on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Opposition wants to attack the treasury benches on other issues like lack of drinking water, modifications to fee reimbursement scheme, diesel prices’ hike and the central government’s proposal to cap the supply of LPG cylinders for domestic purpose.

All the opposition parties gave clear indications, soon after the completion of the Business Advisory Committee’s meeting on Sunday under the chairmanship of Speaker N Manohar, as to how they would behave during the five-day session.

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) walked out of the BAC meeting, saying that the government was not serious to discuss public issues in the House.

TDP deputy floor leader G Muddu krishnama Naidu said the chief minister’s absence from the BAC meeting was a proof of the government’s indifference. The government should hold a month-long session, if it was really serious on public issues, he demanded. YSRC honorary president Vijayamma also wanted the session for at least 15 working days to discuss various issues.

MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi too expressed displeasure over the short duration of monsoon session. He said if the government was conducting the session as a formality, then it should have confined the duration to just one-day.
