BHUBANESWAR: Ortel Communications Limited will continue its scheme for helping under-privileged girl students as part of its social welfare programme “Ortel Dayitwa” meant for encouraging girls to pursue higher studies. The scheme, initiated by the media group, started in 2009 lending a helping hand to 30 under-privileged girls. “There are numerous programmes which look after the welfare of a girl child, but I could not find any programme which  supports a girl child for higher education. So we decided to come up with Ortel Dayitwa where the students are called Ortel Dayitwa Scholars,” Ortel Communications Managing Director Jagi Mangat Panda said. The students will also be given the benefit of getting career counselling. Motivational sessions for them will be organised by experts. Ortel scholars from all over the State, along with their parents, took part in the one-day workshop organised by the media group here. Entrepreneurs from various fields interacted with the students. “The major focus is to create active professionals from among these students. They need to dream big and the rest they can leave it to  us,” Panda said. Swagatika Mohapatra, an Ortel scholar, was awarded a cheque towards her tuition fees and also to get admission in a reputed engineering college under the programme.  Around 90 students are part of the programme now. Every year, 30 students are selected with income of the family and the High School Certificate (HSC) examination results being the criteria.
