More than 44,000 candidates appeared for the Group-II and VII-B of Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) examinations held in Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts on Sunday.
Of the 24,750 candidates who had applied for the Group-II examination in Vellore district, as many as 20,979 candidates appeared for the examinations held in 91 halls in 81 centres in the district. Of 10,354 candidates who had applied for Group-VII B examinations, 3,373 candidates appeared for the examinations, officials said. District Collector Ajay Yadav inspected a few centres to ensure free and fair examinations.
In Tiruvannamalai district, 15,983 out of 18,636 candidates appeared for the Group-II examinations in Tiruvannamalai, while 3,121 candidates of 8,645 wrote the Group-VII B examinations.
The examinations were held in 66 centres in Polur, Arni, Cheyyar and Tiruvannamalai taluks in the district. District Revenue Officer of Tiruvannamalai S Valarmathi said the examinations passed off smoothly.
