NELLORE: Some unidentified miscreants took away cash and gold ornaments worth about Rs 50 lakh from a pawnbroker’s shop after murdering its proprietor in the busy Achary Street on Wednesday evening.According to the police, the assailants who took advantage of power failure in the street at 7:30 pm, entered the shop owned by Lalith Jain (72) and strangulated him to death with a nylon rope.Later, they broke open the safe and decamped with cash and pledged gold ornaments. It is not known whether the power failure in the area was the handiwork of the assailants or not.The police suspect the involvement of four persons in the robbery. The shopkeepers opposite Jain’s shop in the narrow street found him lying motionless.Growing suspicious, they went to his shop and found him lying dead. Immediately, they alerted the police. DSP Kishore visited the shop. The Clues team was pressed into service. One Town police registered a case.
