New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was not allowed to pass through the Parliament House compound one day in August because of a turf war between Delhi police and Parliament Security Staff.
The incident took place on August 18 when the prime minister was returning after attending an Iftaar party at BJP MP Shahnawaj Hussain's residence.
Official sources said the prime minister had gone straight from Parliament to the MP's residence to avoid inconvenience to general public but while returning home, he found the gates of the Parliament House complex closed.
When officials checked with Parliament Security they were curtly told that since no information about the PM's movement was given to them in advance, the convoy could not be allowed to pass through, sources said.
They said it is a standard practice to close all the gates of Parliament at eight in evening.
The PM's security immediately took a different route to reach the 7, Race Course residence of the Prime Minister.
The incident was reported to Home Ministry by the Delhi Police, which did not like the way PM's motorcade was turned back from the gates of Parliament creating an alleged security risk to the VVIP, sources said.
