To ensure conservation and effective utilisation of energy, the Energy department constituted a State Energy Conservation Mission on Wednesday. Chief secretary Minnie Mathew has issued the orders to this effect.
The chief secretary will be the chairman for the Mission. Principal secretaries Mrutyunjay Sahoo (Energy), B Sam Bob (Municipal Administration), CR Biswal (Panchayat Raj), K Pradeep Chandra (Industries) and V Nagi Reddy (Agriculture), Hiralal Samaria (CMD, AP Transco), the CMD of one Discom on a rotation basis and M Kamalakar Babu (vice-chairman and MD NREDCAP) will be the members of the commission. The government will nominate two subject experts to the mission. Member secretary, Energy Coordination Cell of Energy department A Chandra Sekhar Reddy will act as the chief executive officer and member-convenor of the energy conservation mission. The state has been experiencing power shortage due to a drastic decrease in fuel availability. The rapidly increasing demand for power and the mismatch between its supply calls for implementation of energy efficiency and energy conservation measures on the most immediate basis, Mathew said in the orders. The mission will take measures to create awareness among people and bring about a behavioural change in them to ensure economical consumption.
