New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee will present the National Awards to successful Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and banks on Wednesday. The National Awards were instituted by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in 1983 to felicitate the outstanding performers in the sector in various areas like entrepreneurship, research and development, product quality and innovation, an official statement said.
Besides, the awards are given to outstanding achievers in khadi and village industries, coir sector and banks in recognition of their credit support to the small units, it said. This year the total number of National Awardees are 108 -- 39 from MSME sector, 45 from khadi and village industries and 18 from coir industries, besides six from banks - the statement said.
The units/banks securing first, second and third national awards carry a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000, respectively, along with a certificate and a trophy, it said.
