The Department of Education in Puducherry has taken the initiative to make the students engage in activities of dance and music. As per the reports of Local18, a new scheme is started for the same by the department, involving the students from government schools. The scheme is called Isai Kudil, which aims to familiarise the government schools’ students with the activities of dancing and singing, along with their studies. A music institution in Puducherry, the Bharathiar University, prioritises a candidate’s skills in dancing, singing and music for admission. To better equip the students with the skills, the Education Department of the region has initiated the scheme. It is developed to teach the students on the basics of the mentioned arts. Local18 reports that the department has created a musical hut project at the Chinnatha Government Girls Higher Secondary School, in Muthialpet, as part of the scheme.
Over 50 musical instruments were purchased, which include instruments like violin, veena, guitar, tambura, tabla, mridangam, parai, keyboard, drums and more. These are kept at the hut, where the students from the high-school will be provided education and training in music. A music teacher is appointed to carry out the classes. Going by more information, the classes will be conducted twice a week for a duration of 2 hours.
Local18 states that the girls participate enthusiastically in the classes, singing and learning the instruments accordingly. Some are even engaged in composing music. The initiative is receiving support from the students as well as the audience. According to the music teacher, the students will be provided with separate syllabus. After they have passed class 12th, a new music scheme will be introduced which will include the marksheet, added the music teacher. The department is planning to implement the scheme across the whole state.
