HYDERABAD: AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi seems to have evinced interest in the Rs 1akg rice scheme and how it is being successfully implemented for such a major chunk of the population in Andhra Pradesh.
He was of the opinion that the scheme would definitely be a boon to the poor in the country. The UPA government is planning to introduce the scheme across the country as part of the Food Security Bill, according to a press release issued by the chief minister's office.

The Food Security Bill aims to benefit 75 percent of the people in the rural areas. Once the Food Security Bill is passed in the Parliament, the subsidy on the foodgrain sector will double up from the present `63,000 crore to `1,00,000 crore.
