Mumbai: An anonymous letter, allegedly threatening Raj Thackeray and his family, was sent by post to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief's residence at Dadar in Central Mumbai.
Party office-bearer Sandeep Deshpande said the letter contained life threats to Raj Thackeray and his family, saying "they will hire four sharp shooters to kill him."
The office-bearers of the party later met city Police Commissioner DN Jadhav and submitted a copy of letter to him. They also informed him about reduction in security provided to Thackeray since the last few days.
Deshpande said the party chief has also written a letter to state Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil, complaining about the ban imposed by the government from holding rallies, public meetings, press conferences under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
Thackeray had stated in the letter that the government under pressure from North Indian leaders has extended the ban on him. ''Why is this happening and what was the necessity for extension of ban?" he asked.
