CHENNAI: Chinmaya Naada Bindu, a residential school for Indian classical music and dance recently organised a ‘Naada Bindu’ festival at the Chinmaya Heritage Centre. The festival featured “Rama Darshan” — a themed performance and multilayered presentation of classical dances from India and Indonesia, music from Southern and Northern India, shadow puppetry and free educational lecture-workshops, by renowned artistes. The story of Ramayana was brought out in a connected sequence of movement-art in three parts. Bharatanatyam dancer and Lester Horton Award winning choreographer Ramaa Bharadvaj, who is also the director of dance for Chinmaya Naada Bindu, began the portrayal with an invocation she created specially for the festival. Eleven dancers, under the guidance of Indra Udayana (director, Gandhipuri Ashram, Bali) and artistic-director Ketut Widi Putra depicted the episodes of the forest. The finale titled Sangeeta Maruti was a celebratory musical offering to Hanuman — created by Rajkumar Bharathi, performed by Krithika Arvind (disciple of Bombay Jayashree).Nama Ramayana, an illustrated book created by Chinmaya Heritage Center, and an accompanying CD of hymns created by Chinmaya Naada Bindu, were released on the occasion. The book presents 108 original paintings by young artist Arun Raman, each accompanied by a detailed narrative researched and written entirely by a team of youth writers under Swami Mitrananda’s guidance.
