THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rev A Dharmaraj Rasalam has been appointed Bishop of the CSI South Kerala Diocese. CSI Church moderator Rev Vasantha Kumar made the announcement in Chennai the other day. Rev Rasalam will be ordained as Bishop on July 23 at the Mateer Memorial Church, LMS, here.  Presently, Rasalam, 55, is vice-president of the South Kerala Diocese and Presbyter of the CSI Cathedral. He hails from Vizhinjam. After his schooling in Vizhinjam and Venganoor,  Rasalam graduated in History from the Kerala University. He also did his graduation and post-graduation in Theological Studies at the Senate of Serampore College.  "Education and upliftment of the poor will be on top of my agenda as Bishop. Also, the Church needs new institutions in various sectors. A new cathedral is being planned among other things,’’ he said. Rev Rasalam is married to Shirly John, a teacher. The couple has a daughter Sherin S Rasalam, who is doing her MBBS and a son Shinoy S Rasalam, who is in Class X. Rasalam succeeds Rev J W Gladstone, who stepped down recently.
