Reema bags K Madhavankutty award

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Thiruvananthapuram Press Club’s media awards for the years 2009 and 2010 have been announced.The New Indian Express Principal Correspondent Reema Narendran has bagged the K Madhavankutty award for the best English feature for the year 2009. The feature titled “Kids of Silence” earned her the award.Reema, who joined the Thiruvananthapuram unit of The New Indian Express in 2002, has bagged many awards for her stories on health and environment issues. She has won the National Award for Outstanding Efforts in Science Communication in 2008 instituted by the Union Ministry of Science and Technology, the Green Journalist Award of the Kerala Government and the Chalachitra Academy Award for best news reports in the IFFK in 2006.Arjun Raghunath’s report on “Chief Vigilance Commissioner’s alleged links in Palmolein case” published in The New Indian Express bagged the V Krishnamoorthy award for the best news story for 2010.Pradeep Pillai bagged the V Krishnamoorthy award for the best English  news story for 2009. His report “Kerala Government’s war against a War hero” that appeared in The New Indian Express fetched him the award. R Samban of Deshabhimani bagged the M Sivaram award for the best news series for 2009.Sujith Nair, Sanjay Chandrasekhar, Anil Kurudath, Jayachandran Elankath, R Krishnaraj and D Vijayakrishnan of Malayala Manorama won the K C Sebastian award for the best political reporting for 2009.K Sasi of Chandrika, Kannur unit, won the Minerva Krishnan Kutty award for the best human interest story for 2009. T K Sujith of Kerala Kaumudi bagged the Cartoon award for 2009.Madhyamam daily won the best lay-out and design award instituted in the name of Swadeshabhimani.G Vinod and Sanjay Chandrasekhar of Malayala Manorama bagged the M Sivaram award for best news series (2010). V Jayakumar of Kerala Kaumudi,  Kottayam unit, won the K C Sebastian award for best political report (2010).Other awardsBest human interest photo (Minerva Krishnan Kutty award (2010): C B Pradeep Kumar, Varthamanam; News photography award 2010: Sameer A Hameed (Malayala Manorama, Pathanamthitta); Cartoon (2010): T K Sujith (Kerala Kaumudi); Best lay-out and design (Swadeshabhimani award 2010): Madhyamam Kozhikode edition.G Venugopal award for adventurous reporting was bagged by Prajesh Sen of  Madhyamam, Kozhikode.The date of the award ceremony will be announced later, the Press Club said in a statement here on Friday.
