Members of the Tamil Nadu Nutritious Meal Employees Association staged a protest in front of the Collectorate for the third day on Wednesday demanding recognition by the government as full-time employees. They had held similar protests on Monday and Tuesday too.
The protestors also demanded monthly pension, promotion for helpers as cooks and appointment of helpers.
Associations’s district president, R Rajasekar said the government was spending 70 paise for the beneficiaries for every meal, but it did not include cost of rice, dal and oil. “We cannot prepare food at 70 paise after the recent price hike and so we want the government to increase the amount to Rs 3,” he said.
