Residents of Akbarabad First Street (South) Exnora Association (AFSEA) in Kodambakkam came together along with the Sakthi Nagar Exnora Association, Women’s Exnora Association and Anna Park Exnora Association to organise an interactive session between Corporation officials and residents here on Sunday. The purpose of the meeting was to highlight the lack of civic amenities in the street.
Issues including improper clearance and disposal of garbage, bad condition of the road, lack of adequate parking space, water stagnation and the mosquito menace due to the stagnation were discussed.
K M Kannan, president, AFSEA, said, “Garbage and waste is just piled up on the street and no one seems to be disposing it. It is brought from somewhere else and dumped here. We already reported it to the mayor with photographic evidence and it was cleared. But now, it’s back again. We’re facing a whole host of other problems because of it.”
Kannan added that they had originally gathered to hold a token fast to protest the change in the usage plans of the Rangarajapuram Subway. “The original plan for the subway was to allow two and three-wheeler traffic. And then we learnt that it was being planned for pedestrians only. We wanted two and three wheelers also to be able to use the subway. The authorities have said they will look into all our demands,”he said.
