CHENNAI: RG Stone Urology & Laparoscopy Hospital, a leading urology centre in the country, announced on Tuesday that it would open more centres in the city. Addressing a press conference, Baldev Raj, Country Head of the hospital, said that the decision to expand was taken in order to cater to the increasing number of patients at the already established centres in Chennai from other parts of Tamil Nadu. Further, the organisation has also been planning to invest a total of Rs 500 crore in the next two years in an effort to open 50 more centres across the country. Also, RG group has been observing February as the ‘Cancer month’ and has been organising health check-up camps, providing free consultations and allied programmes in Chennai, he added. The main aim behind this campaign was to educate people about the risk factors of urological cancer and the benefits of early detection. R Vijaykumar, Chief Urologist, RG Stone Urology & Laparoscopy Hospital, Chennai, said that prostate cancer incidence was increasing in India by a per cent every year. With growing life expectancy, the overall prevalence of cancer had also increased. Early detection of urological malignancies was of vital importance for better treatment and quality of life.
