New Delhi: Sania Mirza will open her campaign at the $1,340,000 WTA Rogers Cup in Montreal, Canada, against Italian qualifier Alberta Brianti.
The 44th-ranked Indian is not expected to face much difficulty in her match, scheduled to be the fourth on Court B N on Monday.
Twenty six-year-old Brianti is currently ranked 148th on the WTA charts, the highest she has ever been.
If she gets through the first round, Sania will face the winner of the match between Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia and 36th-ranked Dutch girl Michaella Krajicek in the second round of the Tier I WTA tournament.
American player of Indian origin Neha Uberoi faces Zimbabwean Cara Black in the first round after defeating Maria Fernandes Alves of Brazil 6-0 6-4.
In the doubles section, Sania will team up with Poland's Marta Domachowska, with whom she had reached the final of the Cincinnati Open last month.
They face the pair of Tathiana Garbin of Italy and American Meilen Tu.
