New Delhi: Rajya Sabha member Jaya Bachchan on Tuesday waved a torn Rs 500 note in the House, saying banks were not willing to exchange it.
When Bachchan raised the issue, Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat quipped "give it to me. I will get it exchanged."
When the Samajwadi Party member started displaying it in the House, the Chairman asked her to keep it with her.
"I will keep it for display in the Central Hall of Parliament," Bachchan said.
Jaya Bachchan is facing disqualification from the Rajya Sabha after the Election Commission made a recommendation for the same to the President.
President A P J Abdul Kalam is, however, yet to take a decision on this.
The EC took the decision on the basis of a petition filed by Madan Mohan, who had alleged that she was holding an 'office of profit' as Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Film Development Council.
Jaya Bachchan has contested the EC, saying it had not gone into the 'most fundamental document' relating to her appointment as Chairperson of UPFDC.
