New Delhi: After the government faced heat over a mass conversion ceremony in Agra, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has stepped in. RSS pracharak Rajeshwar Singh, who was spearheading the 'ghar wapsi' campaign in Uttar Pradesh, has gone on indefinite leave.
Rajeshwar Singh had supervised the conversion ceremony in Agra. RSS outfit Dharm Jagran has been conducting a ghar wapsi campaign to convert Muslims and Christians to Hinduism.
Rajeshwar Singh, convenor of the Dharam Jagran Samiti spearheading the entire campaign in Uttar Pradesh has been asked to put the entire operation on hold and proceed on leave. The BJP president Amit Shah while batting for an anti-conversion law has condemned any efforts being made at forceful reconversions. "We are against any reconversion by force," said the BJP chief.
Targeting the BJP, Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that BJP has the habit of using people then dumping them.
The reconversion or 'ghar Vapsi' ceremony has now become the biggest source of embarrassment for the RSS. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi has chosen to remain silent, he has however expressed his concerns to the BJP's ideological parent.
In damage control mode, the Modi govt is trying to reach out to minorities across the country- trying to put the focus back on development and is emphasising on inclusive growth
BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that Muslims have to be brought to the mainstream.
Religious conversions have been a hot potato for the NDA government which has united the whole opposition against the Centre.
