New Delhi: The New Year has just begun and channels are busy lining up big -budget shows for their viewers in the first few months of the year. While some popular shows are coming up with their second season in the coming months, there are some shows which are making their debut with some popular actors in the lead.
Here is a look at five shows on Indian television to look forward to in the coming months.
Satyamev Jayate 2: The first season started a movement of sorts in the country. Aamir Khan, as the host stirred the conscience of a country on pertinent issues like dowry, medical malpractice and female foeticide. The second season will be aired on Star Plus and Doordarshan and promises to be delve into issues that need to be addressed in the society. The second season will have a different format where the makers have decided to break the second season into three parts with each segment airing four shows on Sundays.
Khatron Ke Khiladi Season 5: TV and film celebrities take on the challenge to perform high risk stunts in the fifth season of the Indian version of Fear Factor. The celebrities include actors like Ranvir Shorey, Mugdha Godse and celebrity couples Gauahar Khan-Kushal Tandon, Gurmeet Choudhary-Debina Bonnerjee and others. Director Rohit Shetty, a stunt enthusiast and whose films always have risky stunts will be hosting the show.
Mad in India: When Sunil Grover aka Gutthi left 'Comdey Nights With Kapil' it created uproar of sorts. While Colors patented Gutthi and barred Grover from using it for his own show, the comedian-actor will be soon seen in a satirical show on Star Plus called 'Mad In India'. The promos of the show are already on air and show Grover dressed in drag similar to what he used to do in 'Comedy Nights With Kapil'. Will Grover be able to create the same magic? Will the audience shift their allegiance to his show from 'Comedy Nights With Kapil'.
Daag: The pretty Sanjeeda Sheikh gets to feature in the lead role of Star Plus' ambitious show 'Daag'. If sources from the industry are to be believed, the show is based on the Rekha's film 'Khoon Bhari Maang'. The serial will also see the comeback of Vatsal Seth on the small screen, who had played the lead in 'Just Mohabbat' in the late 1990s. Vatsal then tried his luck in Bollywood but couldn't really make a mark for himself in films. The show was initially to be aired from Diwali 2013 onwards, but got delayed and will now be aired in February or March 2014.
Vasundhara: We hardly get to see Jaya Bachchan on screen these days. The National Award winning actress will be making her TV debut in a show called 'Vasundhara' which is based on a Gujarati novel. The show will trace the life of a single parent and Mrs Bachchan will be playing a matriarch. To be produced by Endemol, it will be aired on Sony Entertainment Television.
