New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to the CBI and the Madhya Pradesh Government on a petition filed by Monica Bedi, a companion of extradited gangster Abu Salem, challening denial of bail.
A bench headed by Justice K G Balakrishnan posted the matter to the first week of June.
Bedi's counsel, KPS Tulsi challenged the denial of bail by Madhya Pradesh High Court and the Andhra Pradesh High Court contending that she had served two years sentence and was in prison for three years in Lisbon for travelling to Portugal on a fake passport.
He said the accused cannot be tried and punished twice for the same offence.
Monica was extradited from Portugal with her boyfriend Abu Salem because she was staying there with the help of forged documents. She gave fake identities in the names of Neha Jaffri and Fauzia Usman.
