CHENNAI: Bright Future for Blind, a non-profit NGO based in Chennai, invites applications for scholarships from underprivileged students along with the visually challenged. Scholarship beneficiaries have to spend at least 5-10 hours in a week with the visually challenged, reading to them their study materials. The aim is to help at least 100 visually disabled with regular scribes for assistance in their academics. They have teamed up with the National Association for the Blind for identifying the visually challenged.Students of Class 6 and above studying in municipality, corporation, government or government-aided schools and colleges are eligible to apply, including those pursuing professional degrees in government or government-aided institutions. About 100 students will receive scholarship assistance worth `5 lakh in all. Tuition fee, books and uniforms (where applicable) will be covered under this assistance. Students with a distinction of 80 per cent or above in their previous year and a reference from their Headmaster/Principal on their economic difficulties would meet the pre-requisites. The scholarship beneficiaries will receive assistance every year until their completion of studies.
