TIRUCHY: ‘Black’ was the most allergic colour for security personnel guarding the Tiruchy airport as they thoroughly checked the luggage of passengers for black clothes and removed them. This was due to the black flag demonstration against the visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced by the DMDK leader Vijaykant to condemn the Centre’s failure in implementing the SC verdict to raise the water level of Mullaiperiyar dam.Black cloths, from shawls for the winter season and socks were removed from the passengers’ luggage to ensure that no one waved anything black at the PM.The passengers, who were puzzled and perplexed, had no other option but to leave black cloths behind before entering the airport. All vehicles that entered the airport were subjected to a thorough search, while police guarded the entire airport road. About 500 policemen were deployed around the airport to control demonstrations against the PM who landed here to on his way to Karaikudi. Security at the airport was under the control of Special Protection Group till the PM left for New Delhi. The police provided security outside, where DMDK cadre tried to gather with black flags.
