CHENNAI: A day after a girl committed suicide in Kancheepuram, self-immolation bids continued in the State on Monday.In Chennai, P Selvam (43), a resident of West Saidapet, reportedly torched himself near MGR Illam on Arcot Road, protesting against the capital punishment. He sustained 40% burn injuries and was admitted to Government Royapettah Hospital. The police, however, attributed the self-immolation to domestic problems.In Madurai, three members of pro-Tamil outfit, Tamil Puligal, attempted to commit suicide at the Collectorate here around 10.30 am. They were arrested by a team led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (law & order) Thirunavukarasu. The protestors were identified as Chiruthai Selvam, Pandi and Marimuthu. In Tiruchy, three Puthiya Thamizhagam supporters tried to self-immolate, creating panic and forcing the closure of the Collectorate for a brief period. Police stopped Balu, Bhuvana and Gopi from immolating themselves using petrol.
