EHYDERABAD: The Assembly session convened on June 4 for the election of speaker and deputy speaker has been prorogued, dashing all hopes of the TDP of moving a no-confidence motion.Governor ESL Narasimhan issued a notification on Tuesday stating that the session stood prorogued. The Budget session of the Assembly, though concluded on March 29, was adjourned sine die but was not prorogued which meant that it was in a state of adjournment till June 3. It was reconvened for a day on June 4 for the election of the speaker and the deputy speaker and was later adjourned sine die without taking cognisance of the TDP’s no-trust motion. Now that the session has been prorogued, the government, if it chose to delay reconvening of the session, could wait till six months, the maximum period of time that is allowed between two sessions of the House.TDP accused the government of proroguing the House as it was afraid of facing the no-confidence motion. Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on the other hand is understood to have told his colleagues that the reason to prorogue the House was to bring an ordinance to facilitate extension of loans to tenant farmers. “The kharif season is about to start. Unless we have the ordinance in place, we cannot help the tenant farmers. If the Assembly is in session, we cannot bring an ordinance,” the chief minister is reported to have remarked.
