HYDERABAD: Five persons of a family and their neighbour were injured in a gas cylinder explosion in a house at Adarsh Nagar in the early hours of Sunday.The impact of the blast was such that the wall of the house collapsed resulting in injuries to the neighbour.The explosion was heard within a radius of one kilometre, police said.According to police, the family of 38-year-old S Raju, a native of Karnataka, migrated to the city a year ago and was living with his wife, Bharathi (30) and three children Shiva (10), Arvind (6) and Aishwarya (3).The family runs a tiffin centre in the two-room house.Rajendranagar police sub-inspector B Kotaiah said as usual Raju woke up at around 4 a.m and lit a beedi with a match stick.However, he could not smell the gas which leaked from the cylinder and spread to the entire house.The cylinder exploded with a deafening sound.Raju and other members of the family, who were sleeping in the same room, suffered burns. There are two portions adjacent to the house and the wall of Raju's portion collapsed under the impact of the explosion.An auto driver, Srinivas, who was residing in the adjacent portion also suffered burns.All the injured were shifted to Osmania Hospital and the condition of Bharathi, who suffered more than 50 per cent burns, is said to be serious while the condition of others is stable.
