KOLLAM: Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan said the victory of Socialist Party candidate in French Presidential election was a reflection of the socialist movement gaining momentum in the world, at a time when capitalist countries are suffering from economic downturn.He was inaugurating the concluding ceremony of the NGO union state meet at the Press Club maidan here on Monday.He said that there was no need for concern about the Marxist party rule in India being restricted only to Tripura and the party workers should gain confidence from the socialist movements sprouting all around the globe.“The global workforce has been gathering together to fight against capitalism,” hesaid. While capitalist countries including US are in deep financial crisis, the socialist countries do not suffer from any such crisis. China is the best example as they are all set to become a top nation.Union president P H M Ismail presided over the function. P K Gurudasan MLA welcomed the gathering. RSP state secretary A A Aziz, C Divakaran MLA and CPM leader K Varadarajan spoke.NGO State Meet ConcludesEarlier, a mass rally was held marking the conclusion of the three-day conference.The rally began from Kollam Civil Station premises, passed through the High School Junction, Lakshminada and Main Road to culminate at the Press Club maidan.The state council meeting held the other day elected office bearers and 12 state secretariat members of the union. A Sreekumar would be the general secretary. P H M Ismail would continue as the president. K Saseendran, E Premkumar, R Geethagopal, T C Ramakrishnan would be the vice presidents. T C Mathukutty, P M Raman, Ajayan K Menon and K Sundararajan were elected secretaries and S Sreekantan would be the treasurer.
