PURI: Ending the 11 days of outing since Rath Yatra, Lord Jagannath, Devi Subhadra and Lord Balabhadra were escorted to the Ratnasimhasan inside the sanctum sanctorum on Thursday. A spectacular display of fireworks and chanting of ‘Haribol’ marked the homecoming ceremony of the Trinity, also known as ‘Niladri Bije’. The deities were taken into sanctum sanctorum in ‘pahandi’ procession by the servitors.Early on Thursday morning, the servitors conducted the daily rituals of the deities with observance of ‘Mangal Aarati’, ‘Abakash’ and offered fruits as bhog to the Trinity. In the evening, ‘Sandhya Aarati’ was observed followed by ‘Sandhya Dhupa’.Before the ‘Pahandi’ procession of Lord Jagannath, a play was enacted between the servitors of Lord Jagannath and his consort Goddess Mahalaxmi. By the order of Mahalaxmi, the temple gate was closed to prevent the entry of Lord Jagannath to teach him a lesson for not taking her along with Him to His aunt’s house, the annual sojourn. Mahalaxmi maintains a close vigil from Chahani mandap (a projected platform situated at the right side of the temple main gate) on the activities of Lord Jagannath on the ‘Nandighosh’ Rath.While Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra are allowed to enter the temple, door was slammed on the face of Lord Jagannath. The Lord then offered Mahalaxmi rasgullas to appease her.After a long persuasion, she allows him inside the temple.As a part of the ceremony, thousands of devotees presented rasgullas to the Lord as bhog.After installation of the deities on the Ratnasimhasan, priests resumed normal daily rituals starting with Mahasnan (the grand bath) followed by a fresh set of nitees concluding with Badasinghar (night dress) and Pahuda (sleeping).Devotees can taste the ‘Mahaprasad’ known as ‘Nilachal Abhada’ on Friday.
