Son dumps father in cremation ground
Seventy-year-old Debananda Sahu was dumped after a festering wound in his leg did not heal for a long time.

Sundargarh (Orissa): A septuagenarian man was dumped in a cremation ground near Sundargarh by one of his six sons after a festering wound in his leg did not heal for a long time.

"I was brought here by my son Benudhar in the night. He asked me to live here," Debananda Sahu said.

Seventy-year-old Sahu was found lying on a cot in the cremation ground on Tuesday morning after spending a night under the open sky.

Sahu, a resident of Korei village, about five kilometres from Sundargarh, was rescued by locals who rushed him to a hospital where he is being treated for his wound.

Most of Sahu's sons work outside Korei. He was living with Benudhar, his second son.

As the wound festered, he was first asked to stay in a cattleshed in the backyard of Benudhar's house, Sahu said.

Premananda Sahu, the officer in-charge of Sundargarh Sadar police station, said no case was registered in the matter as it related to a family feud even though the incident was shocking.

Police believe a feud within the family involving Benudhar and his wife might have resulted in the old man being thrown out of the home.

Sahu's other sons rushed to Korei after hearing about the incident and are now taking care of their father, police said.
