KOCHI: Allegations are pouring in from various corners that around 7,000 letters sent through the Speed Post service of Department of Posts have been pending at the main speed post centre in Kochi for the last 24 days.It has been alleged by the postal department union members that the delay in delivery of letters occurred after the postal department made the Speed Post service a different entity and cancelled its tie-up with the post offices. “Earlier, the letters arriving through the Speed Post centres were delivered through the post offices. But now they have cancelled this network. This has caused immense delay in the delivery of letters. Above all, there is no proper system to check the functioning of the Speed Post system in the city,” the union members alleged. However, top officials in the postal department said that the functioning of Speed Post has not been affected and high standards maintained in the service. “We are strictly monitoring the day-to-day activities of the Speed Post Centre in Kochi. So far we have not received any complaint from the customers about delay in delivering letters. We have a complaint response and grievance system,” the official said. The official said that certain people with vested interests have been levelling baseless allegations against the postal department. “Those who have any complaint should contact the respective Speed Post centres,” the official said.
