New Delhi: The National Capital Region might have become the zone of high power as far as economic growth is concerned, but the truth is that it's emerging as the most dangerous crime hub of India.

Though the country has realised the seriousness of the situation only now, the truth is that NCR’s crime graph has always shown an upward trend.

This week alone saw the shooting of Sheeba Thomas by Lakhsman, alias Lacchi, on a Noida road. The police, under pressure, suspended two officers for neglecting duty.

Shockingly, Sheeba's murder was followed by an ex-army man being shot at in Noida again. Both incidents came within twenty-four hours of another chilling crime – a 17 year old girl was gang-raped in a moving car by her neighbours.

Several instances of crime have come to haunt the national capital region. This month alone, a dinner outing turned into a nightmare for a group of friends, including two pilots when about 10 youths beat them with rods and hockey sticks in a pub in Gurgaon in Haryana.

Even the guardians of law weren't spared. In March this year, Assistant Commissioner of Delhi police, Rajbir Singh, was shot dead in Gurgaon, allegedly by a property dealer following a dispute over money.

In February this year, Ravinder Bhati, son of an Uttar Pradesh minister shot three people dead in broad daylight.

And the Nithari serial killings that were unearthed in December 2006 haven't been wiped out of national memory. Remains of 18 children and women found from a drain in Nithari village in Noida. Police arrested a businessman and his domestic help on charges of murder and rape.

These are just a few instances of why the national capital region is fast gaining the ill-repute of being the national crime region
