Suu Kyi's party seeks talk on sanctions saying they primarily affect the Junta.

Yangon, Myanmar: The party of pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi has voiced support for Western sanctions on Myanmar and requested meetings with the US and EU to discuss how the embargoes could be modified "in the interests of democracy."

In a four-page report, the National League for Democracy said that the sanctions primarily affect the authoritarian military regime and not the general population.

The report is bound to anger Myanmar's military rulers who have long sought to have the sanctions lifted on grounds that they hurt the impoverished people of Myanmar and have pushed the country deeper into poverty.
