TDP Andhra Candidate Holds-Up Poll Campaign to Perform C-Section on Woman in Danger
On Thursday, as Laxmi was about to leave for her poll campaign, she was informed about a woman who was losing amniotic fluid, which could have led to a miscarriage

Amid high-voltage campaigning and political rows during the ongoing Lok Sabha as well as Assembly elections, Gottipati Lakshmi, a doctor and a candidate for the Andhra Pradesh Assembly polls prioritised her professional oath over a potentially political one.

The politician reportedly delayed her campaign to assist a woman in delivering a baby via a caesarean section.

On Thursday, as Laxmi was about to leave for her poll campaign, she was informed about a woman who was losing amniotic fluid, which could have led to a miscarriage and would have endangered the life of the patient.

Lakshmi, who comes from a political family but is only making her electoral debut this election, immediately went to the hospital to help the mother deliver a baby.

Notably, Gottipati Lakshmi is the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) candidate for the Darsi Assembly constituency in the Prakasam district.

“The doctors at the private hospital had referred her to Guntur. I went there and conducted the surgery to save the mother and child,” Lakshmi said adding that the mother and child are healthy.

“Nothing in this world brings me more joy than welcoming a life onto this Earth Babies and smiles motivate me to keep going. It was a good day,” Laxmi wrote in a social media post.

The doctor further added that she aims to build a hospital in her constituency if she wins the assembly election.

Meanwhile, the filing of nominations for Assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh will begin on Thursday as the Election Commission issued a notification kickstarting the election process.

The nominations from candidates for the 175 Assembly seats will be accepted from April 18 to 25 April between 11 am and 3 pm.

Polling will be held for all 175 Assembly constituencies and 25 Lok Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh on May 13.

The YSR Congress Party, led by Jagan Mohan Reddy, had swept 151 Assembly seats and 22 Lok Sabha constituencies in 2019. Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP won 23 and three respectively.

Earlier today, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, Andhra Pradesh BJP chief D Purandeswari, current YSRCP MP from Kadapa Y S Avinash Reddy and others filed their nominations on Friday for the forthcoming elections to the Lok Sabha as well as the assembly in the state.
