The TDP leadership on Friday suspended four rebel MLAs taking part in the presidential election on Thursday, defying the party’s stance to abstain from the vote.
The suspended MLAs are Chinnam Ramakotaiah, Y Balanagi Reddy, S Venugopala Chary and K Hareshwar Reddy.
The party leadership said these these MLAs had been indulging in anti-party activities in the past several months, culminating in their participation in the presidential election.
In the vote on Thursday, Ramakotaiah and Balanagi Reddy are said to have supported the UPA candidate Pranab Mukherjee.
The other two rebels, Venugopala Chary and Hareeshwar Reddy, both strong votatries of a separate state of Telangana, are thought to have voted for BJP-backed candidate P A Sangma.
For the last last several months, Ramakotaiah has been actively taking part in Congress activities and was found in the company of Congress MLC and senior leader Paladugu Venkata Rao in his Nuzvid constituency.
He also attended chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy’s election campaign meetings.
Bala Nagireddy, elected from Mantralayam, too has been active in the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy camp.
The TDP had earlier lodged a petition with the speaker seeking his disqualification.
It is still pending.
