Cultivation of rice generally yields income once every six months for farmers. However, a young farmer, thinking that growing vegetables would bring income within 40 days, started cultivating vegetables on his two-acre agricultural land. The farmer, Bhanuchander, told Local 18 that he earns an income of Rs. 50,000 per month now.
Bhanuchander is a young farmer from Vaddepalli village in the Edapally mandal of Nizamabad district of Telangana. Previously, he used to cultivate rice. However, he would receive money from the rice crop only once every six months. This led Bhanuchander to the idea of cultivating vegetables. On his two acres of land, he grows okra, brinjal, bottle gourd, sorrel leaves, and spinach. Bhanuchander told Local 18 that he spent around Rs 50,000 on seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides as an investment.
From the day the brinjal and okra crops are planted, they yield a harvest in 40 days. Every two days, okra yields 20 trays of produce. Every four days, brinjal yields 15 trays of produce. He mentioned that these sell for around Rs 400 each.
As a result, he earns approximately Rs 12,000 per week, amounting to Rs 50,000 per month. This crop season lasts for six months. For the past three months, he has been harvesting produce. There are another three months left for the crop. After that, he plans to clear this crop and plant another. He urged the government to provide financial assistance to support farmers.
When Bhanuchander decided to transition to vegetable farming, he selected crops that have shorter growing cycles and can be harvested multiple times within a year. Okra and brinjal, for instance, are known for their rapid growth and high-yield potential. By choosing these crops, he ensured that he could start generating income within just 40 days of planting.
