A Thai monk and his two accomplices, who allegedly stole a 15th Century sandalwood rosary of Sant Kabir from his ashram in Varanasi last week, have been found in Kolkata, police said on Wednesday.
The rosary, which was gifted to Sant Kabir by his Guru, went missing from the sanctum sanctorum of the Kabir ashram last Saturday and the incident came to light on Sunday morning.
An FIR was lodged at the Chetganj Police Station against the Thai monk and his two accomplices by the caretakers of the ashram, who suspected them of stealing the rosary.
Superintendent of Police Rajesh D Modak said, "We have got a location in Kolkata of the Thai monk and his two accomplices and a police team has also been sent there."
An alert was sounded at all airports in this regard, Modak said, adding that probe is going on in this case.
The Thai monk, who has been visiting the ashram since the past three years, had requested for meditating inside the sanctum sanctorum of the ashram for five minutes and the ashram administration gave him permission.
The caretakers of the ashram later alleged that the monk replaced the original rosary with a duplicate one.
