Los Angeles: In a surprise cameo in 'The Interview', Eminem declares that he is gay while being interviewed by James Franco's TV host character.
Playing himself, the rapper casually mentions he's gay while explaining the content of his songs. But the claim causes Skylark (Franco) and his producer (Seth Rogen) to freak out. The chat then starts revolving entirely around his coming out much to Eminem's publicist's chagrin.
"When I say things about gay people, or people think my lyrics are homophobic - it's because I'm gay," Eminem says in the movie.
"People probably are shocked by what you're saying," Franco said. "I'm more shocked with people haven't figured it out now. I mean, it's kind of like I've been playing gay peek-a-boo," the rapper further says in the movie.
Eminem has often been accused of being a homophobic for using anti-gay slurs in his lyrics, a claim that the rapper has disputed.
