Three arrested in the DU admission racket
Himanshu Gupta and his gang had managed to secure admission for 13 students in some of DU's top colleges.

New Delhi: On Saturday, the Delhi police arrested three people for getting students admitted to various colleges in Delhi University (DU) using fake certificates. The gang had been operating since 2008 and had got nearly 30 students enrolled since then.

Officials are now probing whether the mastermind behind the scam, 26-year-old Himanshu Gupta, managed to get his brother and cousin admitted through the same means.

Gupta and his gang had managed to secure admission for 13 students in some of DU's top colleges, using forged caste certificates. The certificates were all issued from the office of the Tehsildar in the Capital's Mehrauli area.

Data of the forged certificates was simultaneously uploaded on the official website so that if anybody checked the authenticity of the caste certificate issued, the same could be verified from the official website.

College authorities refused to comment on camera but they did tell us that they are waiting for Delhi police to furnish more details before they take action against the students who have secured admission through forged certificates. Colleges say they have also been asked to furnish all details of staff members involved in the admission process.

Students say the sky high cut-offs at DU this year could have prompted students to resort to such drastic measures.

The police are now questioning students and their parents and friends to determine the extent of this racket. Further investigations are also on to check if the operations were spread over other cities as well.
