Bengaluru: The forest officials have reported spotting a wild tiger near the Bannerghatta National Park on the fringes of Bengaluru, barely ten kilometers away from the city's habitats.
Over the last few weeks, pug marks and other indications like prey had been noticed by forest officials as well as staff of the safari vehicles that takes people around the park. A forest van driver Satish was able to take pictures of the tiger on Saturday that have got the department enthused.
Officials guess that the tiger could have either come from the Cauvery wildlife sanctuary or the Tiger Reserve near BR Hills almost 70 kms away. It is being considered a positive sign for forest conservation efforts, as it shows tiger expanding its territories.
While there is no danger to residents of the IT city as of now as there is enough prey in the Bannerghatta area, the repercussions in future have to be kept in mind, considering Bangalore's expanding habitats.
