CHENNAI: India’s first International Conference on Interventional Pain Management was inaugurated at Chettinad Health City on Friday morning. The conference was declared open by the founder of the World Institute of Pain, Dr P Prithvi Raj, who called the conference an “excellent opportunity” to propagate pain medicine in the country.Dr Preetha Reddy, MD — Apollo Hospitals announced that “pain is frightening.” reflecting on a recent foot surgery that she had undergone this week, and added, “I was pleasantly surprised that I felt no pain, despite having so much anxiety.” With innovative streams of medicine, such as these, there will soon be no need to fear pain, she also said. “Pain medicine has been particularly effective in oncology, orthopaedics and neurology,” said the administrator.While inaugurating the FIPP review course, Dr V Raji, VC — Chettinad University, made a similar point when she said that despite pain being the commonest symptom of disease, there was “no need for suffering” because of the advent of pain medicine.The conference saw delegates from WIP globally as well as pain physicians from across the country. The conference will continue till September 11.
