BHUBANESWAR: Trade union (TU) leader Dwarika Mohan Mishra has requested Governor Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare to direct the State Government to table the special report of the Lokpal on land acquisition for Vedanta university in the Winter Session of the Assembly. Now that the Assembly is notified to be convened on December 9, the State Government should be immediately directed to place the special report along with explanatory memorandum so that the law of the land and the constitutional provisions are not allowed to be sabotaged, Mishra said in a memorandum submitted to the Governor on Sunday. Mishra drew the attention of the Governor to the letter sent by Governor’s secretary to the Chief Secretary on May 6, 2011, on the special report of the Lokpal to be tabled before the Assembly along with the explanatory memorandum. Alleging that the land for the university was acquired with the tacit knowledge and concurrence of the Chief Minister and his bureaucrats, Mishra said this was thoroughly exposed through the judicial orders of the Lokpal and subsequent special report submitted to the Governor. The TU leader said the State Government has failed to carry out the directions and instructions given by the Lokpal on the issue and even ignored his advice to place the special report on this in the Assembly. Mishra said the Governor assured him during a meeting on September 9 that unless the State Government tabled the special report of the Lokpal along with the explanatory memorandum in the Winter Session, the House will not be allowed to be prorogued.
