Srinagar: The 27 stranded truckers from Kashmir and 48 from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) were allowed to cross back into their own territories after a breakthrough was achieved nearly a month after cross LoC trade was stalled due to the arrest of a PoK driver carrying drugs.
Kashmiri drivers who were held hostage after Indian side refused to set free an accused driver finally met their family members in Uri. The officials said the accused driver was not set free and that he has been sent to judicial remand. Trade and travel between the two countries through the Line of Control (LoC) was shut for a few weeks.
However, last week's negotiations between the two sides led to the resumption of the LoC bus services. Officials said there was every likelihood that the LoC trade trucks would resume too shortly.
