HYDERABAD: The Telangana Telugu Desam Forum (TTDF) has urged governor ESL Narasimhan to direct the state government to cancel the Polavaram project tenders and order a comprehensive probe by a sitting judge into the ‘irregularities’ that took place in finalising the tenders.TTDF leaders, led by its convenor E Dayakar Rao, submitted a memorandum to the governor in this regard on Friday. It may be recalled that the state government awarded the irrigation project contract to SEW consortium in which C Lakshmi Rajam, MD of Namasthe Telangana, was a partner. The TDP termed it a political tender to suppress the Telangana movement. In the memorandum submitted to the governor, the TTDF leaders stated that Gammon India Ltd, Ramky Infrastructure Ltd, Soma Enterprises Ltd, IL and FS, L&T Ltd, Progressive Construction Ltd, SEW Infrastructure Ltd, NCC Ltd, CR 18G-BSCPL (JV), Marg Ltd, Patel Engineering Ltd, Madhucon Projects Ltd, Ritwik Projects Pvt Ltd, HCC Ltd, Gayatri Projects Ltd, IVRCL, Sunway Engineering (M) BHD, Simplex Infrastructure Ltd, Italian- Thai Development PCL Ltd and Jaiprakash Associates Limited filed tenders for the multi-purpose irrigation project.Filing tenders for such a mega project involves a huge funding.Usually, a preparation period of about four months is given to form joint ventures with other companies.“We have some doubts about the Congress government’s intention in speeding up the tender finalisation process. The general feeling is that the government is trying to favour a contractor. It was established beyond doubt that several irregularities had taken place in Polavaram tenders,” the TTDF informed the governor."Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy intervened in the tender process to award the contract to SEW Patel AMR, a joint venture company,” the TTDF alleged. They pointed out that the SEW company does not have experience to erect 2,000 MT heavy hydraulic gates, which is part of the project. Its collaborator Patel Engineering was blacklisted by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for its failure to start a road work in time. The SEW could not fulfil the tender terms and conditions. Only at the behest of the chief minister, the ineligible SEW was awarded the contract of Polavaram irrigation project, the TTDF alleged.
