Two Dead After Ceiling Grill Falls At Galaxy Blue Sapphire Mall in Greater Noida

Two men died after an iron ceiling grill fell on them at Greater Noida’s Galaxy Blue Sapphire Mall on Sunday. The victims died on the spot after being struck by the falling ceiling grill which fell from the fifth floor, reported the news agency, ANI adding that the incident took place when they were moving towards the escalator.

Soon, the police reached the spot and initiated an investigation. Following the mishap, bystanders rushed to help the victims, identified as Harendra Bhati and Shakeel,  and dragged them away from the scene of the incident.

ADCP Central Hridesh Katheria said that the victims, aged around 35, belonged to Vijaynagar, Ghaziabad, and were walking towards the escalator when the accident happened. He added that the ceiling was there for fencing which suddenly fell from the fifth floor.

“The local Bisrakh police station was informed by Yatharth Hospital that two people died in Blue Sapphire mall after an iron grill fell on them from the fifth floor. A police team immediately reached the spot,” he said to news agency, PTI.

Katheria said the families of the victims have been contacted and legal action would be initiated in the case once a complaint is received from them. The police also took the bodies for postmortem.

In another unrelated incident happened last month, an accelerating white Audi car lost control and slammed into a public restroom on the street in a dramatic accident that was reported in Noida Sector 37, Uttar Pradesh.

Five people suffered serious injuries in the incident, but there were no confirmed deaths. They are currently recovering in the hospital. The accident caused damage to the toilet structure as well as the car.
