Dubai: Two Indian workers from Kerala suffered severe head injuries after they were allegedly beaten up by their sponsor in Bahrain for demanding annual leave and other dues.
T Raji and T Manikandan suffered severe head injuries and fractured their arms after their Bahraini sponsor allegedly beat them with a wooden plank and then a shovel.
They were among 11 Indian masons, who were demanding a two-month annual leave and payment of last month's salary, the Gulf News reported.
Indian Embassy officials confirmed the incident and said it took place on Sunday.
The other nine workers are J Rathish, S Suresh, P Ramesh, A Vishwanath, R Srikumar, A Suresh, A Silvan and K Rajesh, they said.
They all came to Bahrain in 2006 on a two-year contract.
The workers, all from Kerala filed a complaint at the Indian Embassy against the sponsor.
Raji and Manikandan have decided to go back home as they reportedly reached a settlement with the sponsor.
