BALASORE: Police arrested the manager and the deputy manager of United Bank of India’s Jaleswar branch on Friday, a day after they were suspended for their alleged involvement in the missing cash case.  Cash to the tune of ` 11.81 lakh was found missing  from the bank’s ATM on Thursday.Sources said bank manager Sukadev Barik and deputy manager Gobinda Prasad Chand were remanded in judicial custody after their bail pleas were rejected. Police also have seized the remaining ` 2,27,700 cash from the ATM.  Jaleswar sub-divisional police officer Santosh Nayak said though the money was taken to the ATM, it was not deposited there.  “Initially, we suspected that the duo have stolen the cash since they knew the password. But the electronic journal in the bank’s server in Kolkata shows no money was stored in the ATM on June 13,” he said. The police officer said even the cash cassette in which the money is kept inside the ATM has not been touched on the fateful day.  The journal also indicated that a person with an Axis bank ATM card had tried a transaction at about 8.20 pm on June 13, but failed as the machine was out of order. Since then there was no transaction, he added.   UBI Regional Manager Rajesh Kumar arrived here on Friday to take stock of the situation.
