New Delhi: The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) on Thursday said its leader Anup Chetia should be brought back to India from Bangladesh so that he can participate in the talks with the government and expressed optimism about the dialogue process.
"We are positive and hopeful about the talks. Tomorrow we will meet the Home Minister and present our charter of demands," 'chairman' Arabinda Rajkhowa said on his arrival in New Delhi from Guwahati.
An eight-member pro-talk ULFA team, led by Rajkhowa, will hold talks with Union Home Ministry officials for arriving at a political solution to the vexed insurgency issue.
"Anup Chetia should be brought back to India so that he can take part in the talks," he said.
Chetia is expected to be deported from Bangladesh as a major confidence-building measure ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Dhaka early next month.
"I don't think there is any obstacle in handing him (Chetia) over to India ... But definitely, there are procedures in extraditing someone who is in jail," Bangladesh Home Minister Sahara Khatun had said on Wednesday.
On elusive 'commander-in-chief' Paresh Baruah staying away from the talks, Rajkhowa said, "So far Paresh Baruah has not opposed the peace process and we hope that he will come and participate in the talks."
Before leaving for Delhi, Rajkhowa said at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International airport in Guwahati, "We have prepared a charter of demands, which we have finalised in our recent meeting in Nalbari. The charter does not include the call for sovereignty."
