BANGALORE: Today the health care sector in the country is under the scrutiny of everyone and this is because of the various issues lingering one after the another. And our namma city too is not free from health care problems hovering over it. In the quest of finding out the problems of hospitals in the city this reporter visited Ghousia Hospital, one of the hospitals in Shivajinagar. As one enters the hospital, there is a water-tap. It is meant for punching the thirst but it has become a nuisance at the hospital as water is spilling over the floor, thus making it quite unhygienic and making the place quite slippery. The place looks like it has not been cleaned for years, making it breeding place for bacteria. As one proceed further will come across a number of patients waiting for the doctors. One of the patient Nazneen said, “ I have been waiting from past one hour but the doctor has not arrived yet. The authorities should take measures to ensure doctors round the clock at the hospital.” However the authority denied shortage of doctors. When our reporter visited the in-patients ward it was found that not a single nurse was present in the ward. The ultrasound section was also locked. One of the major issue that we came across was lack of cleanliness. The toilet facilities require proper maintenance. One of the patients said, “ Toilets are a big problem in this hospital. They are unhygienic but we prefer this hospital since there is no other hospital that provides treatment at affordable cost.” When City Express contacted the Superintendent of Ghousia Hospital, Dr Shiraj Unniasa said, “The health department has prepared a plan to demolish the old structure and construct a new one. We will take measures to keep hospital premises clean.”
