Vadodara: England cricket team received a major blow when captain Michael Vaughan pulled out of their practice match against Board President's XI which began at Vadodara on Thursday.
Vaughan was not playing because of recurrence of soreness in his knee which was operated upon recently, the team's media manager Andew Walpole said.
"The soreness was also there during the first warm-up match against CCI XI in Mumbai and he was not comfortable in the nets here," Walpole said.
The England captain is hopeful to be fit for the first Test against India at Nagpur beginning on March 1.
Besides, paceman Simon Jones and spinner Shaun Udal were also not playing in the match at the IPCL ground where England won the toss and elected to bat.
They were down with a stomach virus along with spinners Monty Panesar andIan Blackwell on the match eve.
