BANGALORE: Wait for cyclists who are looking forward for dedicated cycle lanes in the city continues as the project has further delayed.Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) had announced to implement 5 pilot projects in the city by the end of this year, for which reports were expected to be released in July. One of the projects was the addition of a cycle lane (2 meters width) on certain broad lanes in Jayanagar, besides allotting parking spaces for cycles in about 30 locations. However, work on this pilot project is yet to start. The DULT has listed a report on evolving bicycle friendly streets in Jayanagar. This report, which was released in 2010, includes steps to be taken by the BBMP, city traffic police and NGO’s to identify the streets which would be able to accommodate cyclists. However no action has been taken so far. “Proposals have been made for the project, but orders are not executed yet,” said Gangambika, Councillor for Jayanagar. “I have been injured around 5 times by speeding vehicles. We need a special lane to ride in. The current roads sometimes cause trouble to cyclists,” said a cyclist.
